Ok, this can be a touchy subject, so lets keep all pointless arguments, flaming and bitching out of it. Remember that every body has the right to there opinion, and if you are offended by the fact that somebody's view isn't the same as yours, deal with it, the likelihood is that they are offended by your view! Its good to debate, but don't attack somebody if there view is different from yours, and don't think any less of them; oh and remember, Facts cant be changed, but views can (don't take this as a green ticket to force your view).
So, back to the subject of the thread. Iv put this up to see what peoples views are and where they consider them self to be in the political sense.
Me, I 'd go with temporary Dictatorship. When most people think of Dictatorship they think of Hitler or Sadam Husain. This is not what I mean. I mean a Dictator who is wise enough and able to cut through the crap of religion, mindless bickering and able to get the world back on it's feet. In general, the population of this world are to stupid to think for them self's, and let inconsequential points of view cloud there ability to co-exist and get along. I know that this is never likely to happen, but I can see such benefits from dictatorship (if done correctly).
What about you lot humm?

How did I not see this earlier? >_> A benevolent Dictation could work, but a dictatorship is still a dictatorship, which goes against something that (growing up in the usa) is extremely important to me, Freedom. Under a dictatorship even if it's the nicest guy in the world, gives up on certain aspects of your freedom, and you have no say in what goes on. Not that you really do in any form of government save for anarchy, but anarchy is an extremely scary thought. I digress.
I love my freedom, and I hate that it's slowly being taken away. I'm free to dress how I please, say what I want, be what I want, believe what I want, do what I want with my life, and it's no one's fault if I succeed or not but my own. Because even if I get turned down at one turn there will always be another turn to continue my aspirations and try again. In a dictatorship, my aspirations will eventually end. Unless you cause a revolution and destroy the current (possibly prosperous) economy and country (given that the dictator is benevolent)
The same with Monarchies.
I want a government that does not inhibit your personal freedoms and allows you to go on to do whatever you want to do in life, to be able to pursue your goals to an end. Even if that end is living as a bum. But it's your choice, if you wish to be a bum, then be a bum. The weak are picked off in this manner. If you have nothing to aspire to, you fall into obscurity, and if you want to make it hard enough, you can do it most of the time. This doesn't exist though. and it likely never will.

Well Shag, look at it this way.
Take America....oh, about ten years ago, before we had PATRIOT and all this new crap. Now leave the legal status exactly the same, and replace the Republic with a dictator.
What's changed? Nothing. The way new laws are passed and the legal system is now completely different. But if that dictator establishes a Judicial system to take care of legal issues, we're good. If he leaves the laws we have, we're good. If he upholds the US Constituion (except for the lack of congress stuff of course), then there really is no difference.
A dictator does not in any way automatically mean lack of freedom. Throughout history, that is the result of it, but it is by no means an unavoidable principal of dictatorship.
But no, I don't support any dictatorship for myself. I firmly believe in a republic, which like a dictatorship, can unfortunately be corrupted very easily. Kind of like this country's become.

It would seem the general consensuses then would be that if corruption was removed and general morals were held with laws passed then a political party of any direction would be a greater step forward than what we have now (of coarse there is the debate of what one considers moralistic, but that should be for a different thread). As for Orthrus comment But if that dictator establishes a Judicial system to take care of legal issues, we're good. If he leaves the laws we have, we're good. If he upholds the US Constituion (except for the lack of congress stuff of course), then there really is no difference.quote] I can see your point. If a Dictator were to run things the way we want then what would be the difference in any political agenda being in front; if they ran it the way we want then there is no change, other than the name of the party. There would be a lack of freedom, but sometimes I wonder if a brief removal of freedom is what people (not all, just generalising) would need, you know, the old nutshell *You don’t know what you got until it’s gone*. I know this may be unfair on some, and in that would run the risk of revolt/revolution/civil unrest etc but a good storm can clear the air. I don’t know if it’s because I’m from England but the whole freedom thing isn’t really driven homes as much as what I’ve seen it to be in the USA (I only make this point from the American News channels I get and what I read). It may be that we (England) just take it for freedom. It’s rarely mentioned in any of our Politian’s speeches, there is never any debate about how ‘our freedom’ is being repressed. This may have something to do with my lack of concern for it (maybe just ignorance or plain ‘pigheadedness’). To be truthful if my freedom was taken away or limited, yes id be concerned, but if it were for ‘the greater good’ and would help mould this planet into a civilised population, id gladly sacrifice it. Just on a side note, a while ago (must have been a couple of years now) I was having a chat with my farther about this same topic, and I put forward my ‘Dictator’ point of view. He replied with ”To keep everybody happy this man/woman would have to be a half-cast-transvestite-lesbian-gay-guy who was a pro-abortion-Christian-fundamentalist with Islamic tendencies”……… made me chuckle, just thought id share.
